........When the creator of our world thought of making a paradise on earth, he decided to place it in the middle of the gulf of Thailand. An is land verdant with coconut palms and colored with the lushness of tropical plants and fauna, trimmed with pearly white sandy beaches and surrounded by clear, turquoise blue water. ........In the early days on this third largest island in Thailand measuring 247 square kilometers, the main source of income for the natives was derived from the coconut groves are integrated bungalows and hotels of all distinctions and price catagories augmenting and sustaining the life vein of the people. The main attraction to tourists from all over the world are the kilometers long expanses of velvety like, sandy beaches fringed with the life sustaining coconut palms.

........Koh Samui appeals to both sides of the coin; those who seek peace, solitude and / or romance and to those who come to expend their energies with sports and other outdoor activities and diverse night life. There are numerous little bays with solitary beaches and abundant flora to escape to yet there are other beaches where you can participate in many beach as well as aquatic activities. For the international shopper, there are a variety of shops and quaint outdoor stalls to explore for even the most discerning of buyers. Both Chaweng and Lamai beaches offer a vast selection of international restaurants to compliment the many palate enlightening traditional Thai ones. No matter what your culinary tastes are, you will find many locations to appease them.

........Of course there are many water sport activities on the beaches to entertain you but that is not all that Koh Samui has to offer to the vacationer. Koh Samui has gained a worldwide reputation for its excellent spas and wellness centers. Health conscious individuals can visit one of these locations for just a one hour massage or sign up for one or more of the many health programs offered. Most places also have a restaurant on site which offer healthy, nutritious meals and drinks.

........Most of the interior of the island is untouched. Great for a short or a full day exploratory trip. The exceptions are the small villages and a few sites such the crocodile farm, aquarium, butterfly farm, horseback riding facilities and the elephant trekking stations. The island also boasts a few waterfalls where you can relax in a cool pool at the base surrounded by luscious jungle and fauna of the tropical rain forest. Also available are day trips to the surrounding small islands. The island has many Buddhist temples, churches and beautiful mosques with their tops of glistening gold that are worth visiting.

........If you flew in to Koh Samui, you might have noticed a huge gold Buddha greeting you from the village of Bo Phut. This large statue of Buddha stands 12 meters tall (39 feet) and sits on its own little island of Koh Farn. It is a landmark and the largest attraction on the island.

........A typical morning on Koh Samui starts with an enlightening sunrise followed by a bright cheerful day filled with dreams and ends with a colorful sunset over the sea and a sumptuous meal with a loved one or some friends. In spite of the growing number of people visiting the island, Koh Samui has been able to retain its natural and relaxed atmosphere.
